Ensuring Your Organization is Cybersecure

October is cybersecurity awareness month, a time to assess your organization’s plan to ensure you are protected and prepared. Cyberattacks are growing in frequency, and many public agencies have fallen victim to these sophisticated criminals. KLC Insurance Services continues to offer cybersecurity coverage and guidance on how to make sure you are taking the threat seriously.

Ransomware is one of the greatest threats organizations currently face. Criminals find their way into computer systems and then delete, encrypt, or steal data. They often hold it hostage, demanding the organization pay a hefty price to get it back. According to Harvard Business Review, ransomware attacks increased 150% in 2020, with some payouts in the tens of millions of dollars.

The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) established Cybersecurity Awareness Month to help spread the word about the growing danger of ransomware and other web attacks. NCSA and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), a component of DHS, organize the yearly campaign.

Colin Glover, a cybersecurity advisor for CISA, will join KLC on October 20 for a no-cost webinar on protecting your vital data and recent attacks in Kentucky. You can register here.

This year the focus is on encouraging the protection of cyberspace, including the need for proactive cybersecurity steps. KLCIS has established a helpful brochure that includes a list of steps KLCIS members can take to help protect their cyber data. You can download that brochure here.

Additionally, KLCIS liability customers can use 2021 liability grants on cybersecurity. Customers can apply for the 50/50 matching grants until November 5. Learn more on qualifying expenses and how to apply here.
