Position Summary: Performs intermediate professional work in marketing insurance and risk management services to member cities and other public agencies. Does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Agency Operations. This is sedentary to light work requiring limited physical effort. This position requires visual acuity for preparing, reviewing, checking and maintaining written and computer files and records. Statewide travel is required. Employee is required to be able to sufficiently perceive information at normal spoken word levels and the ability to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Manual dexterity is required to operate standard equipment. • Develops, informs and assists members of KLC in enrolling and participating in the League’s employment benefit, property, casualty and workers compensation insurance products and risk management services and programs. • Coordinates the sale of insurance policies to members. • Assists in coordination of insurance related activites at the KLC c onference and other special projects. • Writes insurance policy proposals. • Meets with current and prospective clients to ascertain insurance and risk management needs. • Provides information and answers questions regarding the League’s programs and services. • Proposes and quotes prices for insurance coverage to cities. • Writes new business coverage. • Prepares applications and underwriting information for the underwriter in rating the risk. • Recruits new members and retains current members to the League. • Serves as customer service liaison for KLC. • Develops and maintains prospect and client database for insurance purposes. • Consults and advises members on insurance related matters outside products currently being marketed in the League and sells additional products and added value services. • Explains insurance policies and proposals at city council meetings. • Prepares marketing materials for distribution to agency clients. • Attends various conferences/conventions to present material, obtain new business and/or solidify existing business. • Assists local insurance agents scattered across the state with marketing effort. • Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of employee benefits and municipal insurance services and programs; thorough knowledge of marketing methods, procedures and techniques; general knowledge of research methods and techniques; general knowledge of education and training techniques; general knowledge of municipal organization and procedures; outstanding interpersonal skills; ability to implement and evaluate marketing programs; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with League staff, contract service providers, clients and prospective customers; ability to prepare and maintain records. Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, insurance or a related field and experience in insurance service marketing. Special Requirements: Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Initially designated as either a Health & Life or a Property & Casualty agent in the state of Kentucky. The requirement will be to hold a license in good standing for both Health & Life and Property & Casualty within six months of beginning employment.
