About KLC

The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) is a non-stock, nonprofit membership association serving over 380 Kentucky cities and municipal agencies. 

KLC provides cities, leaders and employees with many services including legislative advocacy, legal services, community consulting, training and online training, policy development and research, and more.   KLC also provides enterprise services such as financing options for cities and the Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services (KLCIS) insures more municipal clients than any other insurance carrier in Kentucky.

KLC is governed by an 18-member Executive Board of Directors representing communities of all sizes.  The 53 members of the KLC Board of Directors develop a legislative agenda every year, provide legislative strategy and review policy issues.  

KLC was formed in 1927 when 12 Kentucky cities came together to create a unified front on common legislative issues, and to create economies of scale for purchases.  Today, KLC continues to respond to our members' changing needs.

In 1987, cities came to KLC because they could not afford or find insurance.  The result is now called Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services (KLCIS), a member-owned insurance pool.  

KLC is recognized as one of the nation's most innovative and successful leagues of its kind.

In addition to the membership association, KLC serves as the administrator to several other entities, each of which is governed by separate boards of directors.
