Brent Spence Bridge Project Begins This Spring

Groundbreaking for the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project in northern Kentucky is set to start this spring.

The first phase includes building a new companion bridge and improving about one mile of highway on each side in Kentucky and Ohio. This will shift Interstate 71 and Interstate 75 traffic onto the new bridge, delivering major safety and congestion relief. Additional work, including highway upgrades and rehabilitation of the existing bridge, is still being planned.

The initial phase is estimated at $4.05 billion, with Kentucky responsible for $1.7 billion. Costs have been verified by independent estimators and reflect rising material and construction expenses. Funding will come from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and other sources, with each state covering its own road work and sharing the bridge cost.

The project is expected to create more than 700 jobs, potentially reaching 1,000 at peak, with about six million labor hours and wages starting at $30 per hour.

Travel impacts and detours will be announced on the project website and social media channels. Drivers can also sign up for travel advisories via push notifications, emails, and text messages. A monthly e-newsletter is published featuring project updates.
