KLC Announces 2026 Leadership Programs

The Kentucky League of Cities is expanding its leadership development opportunities in 2026 with two distinct programs designed to support both elected and non-elected city officials. These initiatives will provide tailored learning experiences to strengthen leadership capacity, foster collaboration, and ensure ongoing growth for municipal leaders across the commonwealth.

  1. KLC Elected Officials Leadership Series - APPLY HERE
    • Applications open in November and are due by the end of 2025 for current KLC members holding elected city positions.
    • The program empowers elected city leaders to grow in self-leadership and enact visionary strategies to enhance their communities. This is a revamped version based on feedback of what began as the Local Leader Academy in 2022.
    • The program includes three in-person, overnight events per calendar year beginning in the spring:
      • March 2026: Developing Yourself as a Leader
      • April 2026: Leading Your Team
      • May 2026: Leading Your Community

2. KLC Leadership Seasons Series - APPLY HERE

    • Applications open in November and are due by the end of 2025 for current KLC members with non-elected city positions.
    • This new Leadership Seasons Series will serve as a comprehensive professional development opportunity for non-elected city officials. The Winter 2026 program, Align Self, will focus on building personal clarity, self-awareness, and leadership brand development. Through a mix of virtual learning, one in-person intensive, and ongoing digital engagement, participants will gain tools to strengthen their leadership presence and influence.
    • The program will have a virtual launch in January 2026 that includes and introduction to self-awareness and values-based leadership.
      • Includes completion of a Personal Values Assessment.
      • Orientation to the Tresane Digital Community
    • February 2026 will include an in-person intensive that focuses on the following:
      • Emotional intelligence and its impact on leadership presence.
      • DISC assessment application for communication and relationship building.
      • Interactive sessions and reflection opportunities.
    • Virtual office hours and cohort chats will take place March – August 2026
      • Monthly facilitated sessions to reinforce lessons and support application.
      • Ongoing discussions via the digital community, guided by a community manager.

With the launch of these two programs—the Elected Officials Leadership Series for elected officials and the Leadership Seasons Series for non-elected officials—KLC continues its commitment to strengthening leadership across all levels of city government. These initiatives equip both elected and non-elected leaders with the tools, confidence, and collaborative networks needed to serve Kentucky communities effectively in 2026 and beyond.
