The Department for Local Government’s Flood Control Local Match Program is available to help Kentucky cities meet cost-share match requirements associated with projects funded by federal agencies.
The program utilizes state bond funds to provide grants to cities for structural and non-structural projects, including the acquisition and relocation of homes/public facilities from flood-prone areas, the construction and reconstruction of floodwalls, and the removal of debris from creeks and small rivers, among other initiatives. Funds may also be used for flood inundation mapping, elevation studies, and stream flow gauges.
Applications must include a resolution from the local government legislative body authorizing it to apply for the grant and copies of legally binding agreements and/or commitment letters with the federal sponsor. The requested grant amount must be within reason based on the scope of the work and the committed funds by the federal sponsor. The standard matching process requires a local match with funds from a federal sponsor.
