KLC Announces New Cities License Plate

Kentucky motorists will soon have a new way to show their support for Kentucky cities. The Kentucky Division of Motor Vehicles has approved the Kentucky League of Cities’ (KLC) new specialty license plate, “Cities Drive Kentucky.” The plate was officially unveiled at the 2025 KLC Conference & Expo in Owensboro.

All proceeds will benefit the KLC Cities Helping Cities program, which provides aid to Kentucky cities facing disasters or emergencies. KLC launched the program during the pandemic to help cities share resources, but recent natural disasters have highlighted the growing need for ways to deliver immediate aid for communities and support critical public programs and services.

“We are thrilled to unveil this new license plate as a symbol of Kentucky cities and the strength of our local communities,” said KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney. “This initiative is more than just a way for drivers to show pride in their city. It is also a powerful tool to help communities recover and rebuild. We’re grateful to the state for making this available to Kentuckians statewide and to the citizens who will help us spread the message about the key role cities play in Kentucky and the need to help communities when it matters most.”

The “Cities Drive Kentucky” plate will be available to purchase in 2026 their county clerk’s offices throughout the state. A specific timeframe is not yet available.
