KLC Hazard Alert: Hot Box Cleaning
The Kentucky League of Cities Loss Control team has important information on a potential danger to city employees. In the past few months, KLC members have had workers injured while cleaning a hot asphalt patching trailer (hot box). KLC is issuing a hazard alert to raise awareness of the threat.
Hot boxes transport, store, and maintain the ideal temperature of hot mix asphalt for patching holes in city streets. In the most severe reported incidents, employees were cleaning the hot box after use. To prevent burns, always use a non-flammable, environmentally friendly product to clean the asphalt hot patcher.
