Cybersecurity Grants Help Policyholders Prepare for Cyberattacks

The KLC Insurance Services launched the Cybersecurity Preparedness Grant on Nov. 15, 2021. The grant was available to all current KLC Insurance Liability policyholders. Awards were based on the billed liability premium. Grant amounts ranged from $1,000 to $15,000.

The grant was closed on Sept. 30. Grant funds dispersed totaled $998,000 and were provided to 205 liability members.

Members were required to use the grant funds to protect themselves against cybersecurity incidents by choosing to use the grant funds for:

  • Vulnerability assessments
  • Implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) for email, remote access to computers/servers, and access to administrative accounts
  • Setting up data backup and disaster recovery
  • Purchasing Office 365 and the advanced threat protection – or equivalent if using another software
  • Installing endpoint detection and response (EDR)
  • Cost reimbursement for prior cyber risk control implementation that meets these criteria

Municipalities continue to be at an extremely high risk for cyberattacks. All members are encouraged to frequently visit the KLC website for updates and notifications of future webinar training opportunities.
