Planning & Zoning educates zoning administrators, planning commissioners, board of appeals members, and legislative bodies on the intricacies of the proper way to conduct zoning procedures in your community.

Who should attend? Planning and zoning administrators and staff, commissioners, local elected officials, board of adjustment members, city attorneys, city planners, city administrators, and city legislative body members.
Credit: This training provides 8 hours toward planning and zoning requirements, including the mandated 1-hour housing topic. The session will count for 8 hours of City Officials Training Center and Training Incentive Program (TIP) credit.
A boxed lunch will be provided.
An Intro to KRS 100 - 1.5 hours
Although a topic often covered in training sessions, the importance of the basics in KRS 100 is the most important part of what planners do. We will cover the basics and any other topic or question related to KRS 100.
Renewable Energy Solutions - 1.25 hours
As communities explore alternative energy solutions to help supplement energy needs, what steps can be taken at the local level to ensure that alternative energy projects are in keeping with community desires?
2025 Kentucky Legislative Review - 1.25 hours
An overview of various planning and zoning-related bills. The session will highlight passed bills along with some that did not make it through the entire legislative process.
Impact of Planning & Zoning Policies and Procedures on Housing Supply and Accessibility - 1.25 hours
As required by 2025 House Bill 321, this session will explore housing needs across the state and discuss strategies that local communities can adopt to help alleviate the housing shortage and provide more affordable housing options.
The Role of the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment - 1.5 hours
What are the real functions of the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment? This session will provide an overview of what each board does, the responsibilities of the commission/board members, and how staff supports the objectives of these boards.
Talking Transportation - 1.25 hours
An introduction to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet SHIFT project planning process and a look at some emerging transportation safety solutions popping up across the state.
