Family members established the Mayor Ann C. Deatherage LEAD Award to honor her passion for lifelong learning and commitment to community and public service.

The “Leadership Enrichment And Development” (LEAD) scholarship program benefits mayors throughout Kentucky by providing financial assistance for Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) conferences and learning events.

  • The next qualifying event is the Sept. 24-27, 2024, KLC Conference & Expo in Lexington.
  • The LEAD scholarship covers all registration costs for this event.
  • KLC will recognize the scholarship recipient at the 2024 KLC Conference & Expo Awards Banquet.
  • The winner will also receive a scholarship to the 2025 City Officials Summit.

In addition to serving in leadership at KLC as a Board of Directors and Executive Board member, Mayor Deatherage had more continuing education hours than any city official in the state. As a result, she inspired a KLC Master of City Governance program to recognize city officials whose commitment to learning reaches an exceptional level. Her devotion to making her city a better place had a profound impact on her community and impressed all who knew her. Through the scholarship, her example will enable others to follow her lead.
