CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for assisting the Human Resource Department supervisor in various functions and providing administrative support to the Human Resources department. Under general direction, performs human resource and payroll related activities and programs. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of payroll processes and HR policies. The Human Resource Generalist ensures that all tasks are completed efficiently and employee records are maintained accurately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and employee assistance programs.
- Process benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the HR team to address employee inquiries related to benefits.
- Assist in the onboarding process for new employees, including preparing offer letters, coordinating background checks, and completing new hire paperwork.
- Aid with orientation to new hires, familiarizing them with company policies, procedures, and benefits.
- Provide administrative support to the HR department, including maintaining personnel files, scheduling interviews, and coordinating employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Assist with HR projects and initiatives as needed.
- Assist in preparing payroll-related reports, including tax filings, government remittances, and wage verifications.
- Stay updated on federal, state, and local payroll and HR regulations, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws.
- Assist with audits and internal reviews of payroll processes and documentation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personal information, tax withholdings, direct deposit details, and benefit selections.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of employee data in compliance with data protection regulations.
- Update payroll and HR systems with employee status changes, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
- Assist in processing payroll when needed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies and legal requirements.
- Make bank and payroll deposits as needed.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR processes and procedures.
- The Human Resource Generalist may be required to perform other duties as assigned. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in payroll or human resources is preferred. Proven experience working in a payroll or HR administrative role.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Light-Work/Light-Duty: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Lifting light objects, less than 25 pounds.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, tax regulations, and HR policies.
- Proficient in using payroll software and HR information systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
- An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
- Ability to operate normal office equipment such as a computer, printer, calculator, and telephone.
Salary Information: Paygrade: 4
