The Augusta Police Department is now hiring for a Chief of Police. Enjoy a flexible schedule in a supportive work environment where self-determination is valued. Augusta, Kentucky is a small city where citizens value law enforcement. Augusta, “the most picturesque town in Kentucky”,has a population under 1200. The city’s tax base includes one manufacturing company, tourism (over 30 events/yr.) and a distillery. The Augusta Police Chief is expected to be involved in the day-to-day aspects of patrol as an active member and leader of this small Department, which consists of 4 Officers, including the Chief. This position is for candidates with POPS certification or lateral entry applicants ONLY! Annual salary range $55,000 - $58,000 or higher depending on experience, plus $4,300 KLEFPF. Responsibilities

  • Administer and enforce rules and regulations for the control, disposition, and discipline of the department and of its officers and employees.
  • Assign details, powers, functions, and duties to officers and employees within the department
  • Delegate such powers as deemed necessary for the efficient administration of the department.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled meetings of the Augusta City Council to report each month’s activity of the Police Department
  • Assure that proper records are kept and maintained within the Augusta Police Department.
  • Delineate the internal organization of the department and the duties of his/her subordinates and assistants.
  • Prepare the Police Department budget for submission to the mayor.
  • The Chief of Police is the final department authority in all matters of policy, operations, and discipline, and is subject to the regulations of the City Council and/or the mayor.

Skills:

  • Proven working experience in law enforcement.
  • Proficiency in using police equipment.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard operating procedures, judicial procedures, civil and constitutional laws
  • Working knowledge of interrogation techniques and scene management
  • Knowledge and skills of law enforcement principles and practices
  • Adequate interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Sound judgement along with effective decision-making skills
  • Conflict resolutions and problem-solving skills
  • Responsibility, dependability, honesty, and integrity

Requirements:

  • Experience supervising a small law enforcement unit.
  • Willing to submit to extensive medical and criminal background checks.
  • Valid driving license • BS degree in police science or related field is desirable.
