Grants to Purchase Historic Sites - Due Dec. 31

The National Park Service Department of the Interior offers grants for the acquisition and preservation of historic sites. Funding is intended to help applicants purchase land through fee simple methods, or through the purchase of an interest in the land through a preservation covenant.

Applications for acquisition of lands at eligible battlefields and associated sites rated as Preservation Priority I and II properties will be given precedence in processing, evaluation, and award recommendations.

Eligible battlefields and associated sites: (1) have been assigned a battlefield or “survey” code in the Survey Reports; (2) are located on American soil, or within the boundaries of the United States; and (3) located outside of the exterior boundaries of a unit of the National Park System. Boundaries for most eligible battlefields are defined in NPS survey data. Eligible acquisitions should lie within the boundaries of eligible sites, with priority given to proposals to acquire land within the “core” area of the battlefield. Battlefield boundary and “core” area maps are available on the NPS ABPP website. If the property to be acquired overlaps the battlefield boundary, a majority (more than 50%) of the property must be within the boundary of an eligible battlefield for the proposal to be eligible for funding.
