The City of Shelbyville is accepting applications for a full-time deputy city engineer.
General Duties: Under the general supervision of the city engineer/public works director, the responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: assisting and supporting the city engineer/public works director to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate all Public Works and engineering activities and programs for the city; supervising and supporting the stormwater/engineering technician and engineering/GIS technician; assisting with emergency operations and roadway traffic control in the event of snow, flooding, storms, or downed debris; and enforcing the overall policies and procedures of Public Works and engineering projects.
Education and Experience Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or comparable field; and five years of directly related experience. Two years in a supervisory capacity preferred, but not required.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A knowledge of technical drafting skills, practices, and methods including but not limited to storm drainage systems, streets, and erosion/sediment control; knowledge of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase I or II Municipal Stormwater permit requirements; knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of permit processing and engineering plan review; knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances relating to stormwater design, environmental protection, Best Management Practices (BMPs), NPDES, water quality standards, and critical area protection; knowledge of erosion and sediment control (ESC) BMPs for construction projects; knowledge of Low Impact Development (LID) methods relating to stormwater quality designs; the ability to analyze stormwater infrastructure design, construction, and mitigation; the ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans and designs; the ability to review engineering computations related to design of stormwater conveyance, water quality, and research and development facilities; knowledge of general computer applications, stormwater software, computer aided drafting and design software, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS); the ability to use office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; the ability to solve problems and work as a part of a team; the ability to communicate and interact with other effectively, both orally and in writing; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officers and employees, contractors, government agencies, and the general public.
Salary Information: $76,908 - $96,110 annually, based on experience. Excellent benefits package.
