The City of Frankfort, Kentucky, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Patrol Officer I to join our Police Department serving the state’s Capital City. The Frankfort Police Department is a State Accredited Law Enforcement Agency and is dedicated to maintaining a safe and attractive environment for its citizens.

Primary Responsibilities: Patrol Officers are responsible for maintaining security and safety hazards; being observant and responding to potential criminal activity; maintaining good public relations by assisting others as a source of information and direction; controlling and regulating traffic and parking; and investigating all security, safety, criminal, and traffic incidents.

Minimum Requirements: Applicants must be 21 years of age and be capable of passing physical agility, written and oral interview testing. Applicants must have a high school diploma (or equivalent), a citizen of the United States, valid driver’s license, no felony convictions, have not been prohibited from carrying a firearm and physical strength/agility necessary to perform duties. Candidates must pass post-offer medical and psychological examinations, polygraph testing, drug testing, and an in-depth background investigation. As a condition of employment, recruits must attend an extensive 23 week training course in Richmond, KY. Must acquire and maintain Kentucky Peace Officer certification. Applicants presently certified in Kentucky as a police officer may qualify for an accelerated process. Applicants would be exempt from taking the written test if a Police Officers Professional Standards (P.O.P.S.) certification diploma is provided with the application.

Starting Salary and Benefits: Starting recruit salary is approximately $40,000.00 annually. After successful completion of academy training, the salary increases to $44,000.00 annually. Advancement structure in place to allow upward movement as an officer based upon years of service. Excellent benefit package, including: hazardous duty retirement program, health, dental, vision and life insurance. All initial uniforms and equipment are provided, along with a $750 clothing allowance. Take home vehicle (residing within 15 air mile radius of City Hall). The City of Frankfort provides employees an education assistance program, vacation and sick leave, and a scheduling option that allows 3 to 4 days off per week.
