The City of Mount Sterling Kentucky seeks a highly qualified, community-oriented, and innovative leader to serve as Chief of Police for the Mount Sterling Police Department. This is a full-time salaried position with competitive benefits.

The Mount Sterling Police Department currently employs 22 full time officers and two civilian employees, and serves a population of approximately 7200 citizens.

A qualified applicant must possess a high school diploma, but a bachelor’s degree in a law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred, supplemented by ten (10) years of responsible and professional law enforcement experience. At least four (4) years of prior law enforcement experience must have been in a supervisory position. Applicants must be certified, or able to be certified in six months, by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council. These requirements are in addition to the minimum requirements required to be hired as an entry level police officer for the city.   The ideal candidate will possess a broad knowledge of law enforcement activities; police practices and procedures; investigative methods and techniques; federal state and local laws; firearms use and safety precautions; and principles of supervision and personnel practices.
