Who we serve
The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) is an association of 400 Kentucky cities and municipalities. KLC provides resources, advocacy and assistance to help make cities more livable.
KLC is overseen by a board of directors representing communities of all sizes and is recognized as one of the nation's most innovative and successful leagues of its kind.
Today, KLC provides cities, leaders and employees with a number of services including insurance, loss control and employee benefits, policy development and research; finance, legal and information technology services, training and education and legislative advocacy. It is based in Lexington, Kentucky with offices in Frankfort and staff throughout the commonwealth to serve our members.
KLC was formed in 1927 when 12 Kentucky cities came together to create a unified front on common legislative issues, and to benefit from economies of scale for purchases. Today, KLC continues to respond to our members' changing needs.
In 1987, cities came to KLC because they could not afford or find insurance. The result was what is now called Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services (KLCIS), a member-owned insurance pool. KLCIS insures more Kentucky municipalities than all other insurance carriers combined.
KLC collaborates with local, state and national organizations on a number of projects and initiatives and works with businesses through our Cornerstone Partners Program. The Cornerstone Program channels $2.5 billion in potential purchasing power to businesses that provide, or wish to provide, products and services to cities.
