Welcome to Kentucky League of Cities Technology Services.  The mission of the Information Technology Department (KLCIT) is to research new technologies, evaluate their potential application toward assisting KLC in achieving its goals and objectives, and manage applied technologies to ensure the optimum levels of internal and external customer service.

Helpful Hints on Buying your next Computer

Processor: 3.0-3.4 GHz is now the typical higher end range.  Faster processors are available, but the performance/cost ratio for faster processors is hardly worth the money.

System Memory (RAM): 512 MB of DDR memory is considered a minimum to most users nowadays.  If it can be afforded, double this amount to 1GB would be ideal.

Hard Disk: Most computers come standard with 80-160GB of hard disk space now.  If only working with typical documents (Microsoft Office documents, emails, pictures, etc...), this will be more than enough to store everything you need.  If working with video files, something towards the 160GB end might be a better choice.

Promoting Technology

The Information Technology Department has a strong desire to see Kentucky cities utilize technology as a means to improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of their local government services.  To this end, the Information Technology Department encourages technology companies to participate in the KLC's Cornerstone Partners Program, a partnership with businesses and corporations, both state and nationwide that are interested in providing a product or service to Kentucky's local governments.

When Kentucky cities need technology assistance the Information Technology Department will readily seek to recommend contact with appropriate Cornerstone Partners who can fulfill their specific needs.

If your technology-based company is interested in learning more about KLC's Cornerstone Partners Program go to the "Partnerships / Initiatives" section on this website.

Free Website Development

Kentucky.gov and the Commonwealth Office of Technology have partnered together to improve the accessibility of local government information and services to citizens and businesses.  Combining the resources of these organizations this initiative provides eCommunity Leadership teams, website development, content management tools and hosting for any and all Counties and Cities in Kentucky.

Kentucky.gov will develop and host your website, as well as provide training for you on how to manage your website.  This service is provided at no cost.  Websites are developed and deployed with a content management tool that allows you to manage the content on your website – adding, changing or deleting content at your discretion.  Funding for this local eGovernment initiative is provided by the Commonwealth Office of Technology.

Kentucky.gov will work with you to architect and define your website so that you can provide information to your community via the web.  Kentucky.gov can also work with you to develop online services, such as utility payments, property tax payments, occupational tax payments, pet licensing, etc.

The Kentucky League of Cities encourages any City not currently enjoying the benefits of an Internet website to consider contacting Lee Tompkins, General Manager (lee@kentucky.gov).  Kentucky.gov is located in Frankfort, Kentucky at 229 W.
