KLC’s Leadership Training Center offers specialized professional credit programs for community leaders and employees. The education certificate programs were created to provide timely, valuable opportunities for continuing education.
The Public Officials Essential Skills Institute (POESI) was established to equip city officials with nut and bolts training toward improved government while recognizing their efforts to become effective leaders. Classes are designed to equip city officials with nuts and bolts information.
The Community Safety and Health Certificate Program recognizes the training and experience of the public safety workforce on safety, liability and environmental issues confronting local governments.
Both certificate programs are at no cost to members and are voluntary continuing education programs.
Recognition among peers Recognition of achievement is presented to participants at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels for both programs at the KLC Annual Convention (POESI) and the Annual Kentucky Municipal Environmental Health and Safety Association Conference (Community Safety and Health). In addition, all participants are featured in statewide and localized media releases and coverage during public recognition events.
POESI Program Requirements Bronze Certificate - 24 hours
Silver Certificate - 24 hours (Prerequisite: Bronze Certificate)
Gold Certificate - 24 hours (Prerequisite: Silver Certificate)
Community Safety and Health Program Requirements Bronze Certificate - 24 hours (6 hours can be granted for (4) four or more years of supervisory employment)
Silver Certificate - 24 hours (Prerequisite: Bronze Certificate)
Gold Certificate - 24 hours (Prerequisite: Silver Certificate)
Other forms of qualifying credit
Up to six hours of elective educational credit may be also be attained through:
• Experienced based credit "Experience based credit” may be awarded to pulbic officials or safety and health supervisors who have served four or more years in their municipal capacity.
• Service Credit "Service credit” includes service to the Kentucky League of Cities, Kentucky Boards and Commissions or the National League of Cities and is granted at Silver and Gold levels.
• Outside Credit "Outside credit” for approved conferences and workshops not offered through the KLC Leadership Center may be given at the discretion of the KLC Leadership and Training Manager.
