KLC 2016 Top Priority Becomes Law

On April 13, Governor Matt Bevin signed House Bill 585, sponsored by Representative Martha Jane King (D-Lewisburg). House Bill 585 received bipartisan support in both chambers of the General Assembly. This bill was a joint effort between the bill sponsor, KLC, the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) and wireless providers. The legislation encourages transparency, incentivizes consolidation of public safety answering points (PSAPs), establishes the Kentucky 911 Services Board, requires Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers to collect locally imposed 911 fees, and requires prepaid providers to pay 911 fees equivalent to postpaid wireless fees.
