Deadline for Submitting Audit Reports to the Department for Local Government
Per KRS 91A.040, each city of the first through fifth class is required to conduct an annual audit. Sixth class cities are required to conduct an audit after the close of each odd-numbered fiscal year (unless the sixth class city expended and received less than $75,000 for that year, and has no long term debt – those cities do not have to conduct an audit at all for that year).
Audits must be completed by February 1 following the close of the year being audited. Within ten days of completion of the audit and presentation to the legislative body, each city is required to forward three copies of the audit report to the Department for Local Government (DLG). This means that for cities conducting an annual audit, the audit report copies should be submitted to DLG no later than February 10. The copies should be submitted to:
Glenn Oldham/ Cities and Special Districts Branch
Department for Local Government
1024 Capital Center Drive, Ste. 340
Frankfort, KY 40601
Audit information must also be published in accordance with KRS 91A.040 within thirty days of completion and presentation to the legislative body, except for fifth or sixth class cities authorized to use the mailing alternative outlined in KRS 424.190.
