Community Services

Beyond safety and general infrastructure, cities often provide services to enrich and develop the lives of their residents.  Community services include services such as parks and recreation, housing and community development, health initiatives, local welfare and public transportation.  These services can be funded entirely by general revenues or usage fees can be used to offset the associated costs.  Kentucky cities spend over half a billion dollars each year on community services, which totals just over 11 percent of municipal expenditures.
