Conveniently located on the northern border of Oklahoma City, the City of Bethany covers 5.2 square miles within Oklahoma County and has a population of around 19,000. The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Council, composed of the Mayor and eight City Council Members, appoints a professional City Manager to lead the organization and oversee the day-to-day operations. The City Council also appoints the City Attorney and Municipal Judge. The City employs 135 full-time staff members and 20 part-time seasonal staff. The financial health of the City is strong through fiscally conservative management. The FY 2018 general fund budget is approximately $18 million. The City of Bethany seeks an experienced, visionary, and enthusiastic leader to be its next City Manager. Working closely with the Mayor and City Council, the City Manager will design and implement strategic plans that will address both short-term and long-range objectives for development, fiscal management, and infrastructure improvement. The next City Manager will have a successful track record of creating a climate of good customer service. The successful candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, political science, or related field from an accredited college or university and have at least five years of city management experience. An experienced Assistant City Manager in a larger community will receive equal consideration. A master’s degree in public or business administration or a closely related field and knowledge of Oklahoma municipal government is preferred. The City Manager is required to establish residency in the city limits of Bethany within six months of employment. The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
