The City of Bardstown, Kentucky, population 12,000, located in Nelson County, Kentucky, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Fire Chief. Bardstown is the county seat of Nelson County, Kentucky home of My Old Kentucky Home, and was voted “Most Beautiful Small Town in America by Rand McNally in 2012. Bardstown is located approximately 40 minutes from downtown Louisville. Bardstown operates under a City Council form of government, with the Fire Chief reporting directly to the Mayor, as a department head. The Fire Department has an annual budget of approximately $2.1 million with 17 full-time, 7 part-time, and over 18 volunteer firefighters. Applicants must have a high level of honesty and integrity. Associates degree in Fire Science preferred but not required. Must have five years firefighting experience, including two years in an administrative or supervisory capacity. Knowledge of the budget management process and interpersonal skills are required. The Chief serves at a salary, based upon qualifications. Benefits include Health Insurance and Retirement System contributions. Must possess valid driver’s license, be able to pass extensive background check and drug test.
