The City Manager will be a strong, visible leader; a mentor to staff; and will continue a culture of participatory leadership. Montgomery operates with the council-manager form of government. The Council appoints the City Manager who serves as the chief executive officer and directs the operations of six departments: Community and Information Services, Community Development, Finance, Public Works and Recreation, Fire, and Police with 65 full-time and 40 part-time employees. The City provides superior service to residents, businesses and visitors. The next city manager will have extensive skills and experience to successfully address key challenges related to economic development, fire department financing, recruitment of a talented ACM or assistant to the city manager, succession planning and staff development, and housing development.
